Imagine Dragons — Radioactive (song review)

Imagine Dragons - Demons

Currently at #1 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart (and having hit #17 on the Hot 100, and #2 on Billboard’s Rock Songs), there’s no doubt that Imagine Dragons’ song “Radioactive” is causing many listeners to glow with warm affection.

The song sounds like it could be an outtake from a Death Cab for Cutie album; the yearning vocals from singer Dan Reynolds have an earnestness very similar to Ben Gibbard and the plodding rhythm of the song would be right at home on Death Cab’s album Codes and Keys.

Still, “Radioactive” is not necessarily a great track. It’s easy to see why people like it, but there’s little here that will cause the song to be memorable a year from now, as there’s really nothing memorable about it now. If anything, it means that Ben Gibbard should get together his main band after the Postal Service finishes up their tour; the time’s right for some great music from the band that so many are currently copying (Death Cab!).
