5 artists you need to know

Music is one of the most inspirational influences we have today. There is constantly new music being put out there and most of us just can’t keep up. I am asked quite often what music I am listening to, as people are constantly searching for new songs to upgrade their playlist. I find that my musical influences change almost weekly, however, with these five artists you can’t really go wrong. Each of them have their own style, sound and persona.

1. Chance The Rapper

Chicago native, hip hop artist and vibrant soul – Chance The Rapper is a fresh face who presented a verse on Kanye West’s first track from his recent album “The Life Of Pablo” which is titled “Ultralight Beam.” Although he was already striking major attention all over the hip hop industry his intense verse was bound to put him directly on the map. On May 12th Chance released his mixtape titled ‘Coloring Book’ which was released independently. Undoubtedly one of the strongest rap albums of the year, ‘Coloring Book’ defies every single aspect of hip hop normality while still embracing it’s culture. The 13 track masterpiece is a spiritually grounded album that is just as powerful as it is artistic. If this poetic entertainer is not on your radar, he should be.

2. Brett Young

California native, country music artist and vivid songwriter – Brett Young is an exceptionally talented artist whose single “Sleep Without You” is gaining momentum daily. Big Machine knew exactly what they were getting when they added this tall, blue eyed vocalist to their roster. Young’s live performance showcases true passion for his craft and his ability to tell a story within his music is extraordinary. Regardless of what genre of music you like I guarantee there is at least one Brett Young song that speaks to you.

3. Sam Grow

Maryland native, singer/songwriter and compassionate soul – Sam Grow has a vast following within the DC area and continues to spread his fan base. He has opened up for artists such as Jana Kramer, Kane Brown & Chris Young. Defined as a country artist, his music also displays some rock and pop influence as well. An outstanding songwriter with a first class sound, Sam Grow resonates true talent.

4. Alessia Cara

Canadian, R&B/pop artist and insanely authentic – Alessia Cara has enough talent to last a lifetime. In 2015 Cara released her debut album titled “Know It All” via Def Jam Records. Cara’s voice has a tenderness that draws you in and a great intensity for songwriting. She certainly displays her depth in songs such as “Stars” and “Here.” Cara’s music is honest and pure…delightful.

5. Runaway June

Broken Bow Records trio Runaway June are country to the core. Although they are new as a trio, the three ladies all played a part in country music individually. Naomi Cooke, Jennifer Wayne and Hannah Mulholland are bounded together with style, sass and some damn good harmonies. Their debut single “Lipstick” has just been released to country radio and it’s a gem. These three ladies define true artistry and I’m here to put them on your radar. You’re welcome!
