Band appears to be reuniting with Brian Johnson and Phil Rudd

AC/DC is teasing its comeback and possible reunion with vocalist Brian Johnson and original drummer Phil Rudd. The group’s website loads a new landing page featuring the band’s famous lightning bolt logo as an animated image and sign up option to be notified of the pending news. The campaign is called #PWRUP and could allude to a new album of the same title. However, the site obscures the band members’ names and three menu items with caution tape graphics, as of press time.

The landing page follows cryptic messages that point to the group reuniting with Johnson since he was replaced by Guns N Roses frontman Axl Rose in 2016. Johnson left in the midst of the group’s Rock or Bust Tour due to hearing issues in mid-2016.

Last week, fresh images of the band with Johnson and Rudd in the lineup (see cover image) appeared briefly on AC/DC’s official website before being removed. The images were reportedly accidentally leaked from a video shoot earlier this year in the Netherlands.

Another clue that an announcement is imminent are posters appearing throughout the band’s homeland of Sydney, Australia. One that reads “Are you ready to PWR Up” with the band’s classic lightning bolt emblem, is mounted on a pole outside of Angus Young’s alma mater, Ashfield Boys High School.

Last year, Johnson was spotted with bassist Cliff Williams at a Vancouver studio where it’s believed the band was recording the follow up to 2014’s Rock or Bust. Johnson, Rudd and guitarists Angus and Stevie Young were photographed outside Vancouver’s Warehouse Studios early last year. Online reports had suggested that Angus Young will dedicate the new project to his late brother and founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who passed away in late 2017 at the age of 64 due to a “dilapidating illness.” Rock or Bust was the first project without founding member Malcolm Young.

It was rumored the band would be announcing a 2019-2020 tour last summer, but the announcement never happened. Tokepa, KS radio station V100 said at the time that a reliable source close to the “AC/DC camp” confirmed the announcement and that Johnson was “working with the band” again.

More details as they become available.
