Group celebrates 50th anniversary

Aerosmith kicked off their 50th anniversary celebration by setting an attendance record at Boston’s Fenway Park last week. The classic rockers performed to more than 38,700 fans on September 8th, setting a record for the most tickets ever sold for a concert at the historic MLB stadium, breaking Lady Gaga’s August record of 37,200. The show was originally set for September 2020, but delayed twice due to the pandemic.

“Thank you Boston!! You broke the record for the most tickets for any event in the 110 year history of Fenway Park!” the band shares on Instagram with a photo from the stage. “50 years and still rocking!!”

The Patriot Ledger reports the group performed 20 songs as Steven Tyler made his stage return since entering rehab earlier this year. The group played songs from eight different Aerosmith albums along with a couple of covers. The encore included “Dream On” with Tyler sitting at a white grand piano. The show concluded with a five minute fireworks display.

Ahead of the concert, Tyler visited the band’s 1325 Commonwealth Ave in Boston’s Allston neighborhood where special Aerosmith-themed projects were flashed on the building that served as their home base in their early years. A few other Beantown locations also paid homage to the group with projections.

As part of the continued celebration around their 50th anniversary, Aerosmith will return to Las Vegas to bring their critically acclaimed residency, Aerosmith: Deuces Are Wild to the Dolby Live at Park MGM. Kicking off September 14th — with shows running through December 11th — the residency is the first live concert experience presented in Dolby ATMOS at Dolby Live. Dolby Live is one of the world’s most technologically advanced performance venues for enjoying live music in Dolby ATMOS.

Their ongoing 50th anniversary celebration continues with the 50 Years Live!: From the Aerosmith Vaults, the band’s new “official bootleg” streaming concert series featuring five deep, archival, and unreleased multi-camera live shows from the group’s vast personal vaults. With the entire production of all five concert films supervised by the band, the series features a different concert from each decade which are streaming on their Official YouTube Channel.

Earlier this year, drummer Joey Kramer announced a leave of absence to focus on his family. Three months later, it was announced that his wife Linda had passed away without revealing the cause of death. There’s no word on when Kramer, who’s had several medical setbacks of his own in recent years, will return to the stage. Drum tech John Douglas, who performed at the band’s Boston show, is expected to man the skins for the band’s Vegas return.
