This is the second time in two years Perry collapsed backstage

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has been hospitalized following a performance with Billy Joel at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday night (Nov 10th). Perry was a guest performing “Walk This Way” with the Piano Man when he collapsed backstage afterward.

“Following a guest performance during Billy Joel’s show last night at Madison Square Garden, Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics who gave the guitarist oxygen and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway before taking him to a hospital,” a statement from the band’s publicist reads. “This morning Perry remains in the hospital where he is alert and responsive. The Aerosmith guitarist will be unable to appear today at Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in Florida and apologizes to those attending. Perry is expected to return to the road later this month.”

Joel was unaware of Perry’s collapse until after the show. More details as they become available.

Perry previously collapsed backstage during a Hollywood Vampires concert in 2016. The incident was attributed to dehydration and exhaustion.

Perry just wrapped a European tour with Hollywood Vampires. Earlier this year, Perry released his solo record, Sweetzerland Manifestofeaturing Hollywood Vampires bandmate Johnny Depp on drums on one track.

Next spring, Aerosmith will launch the Aerosmith: Deuces Are Wild residency at the Park Theater at Park MGM in Las Vegas. Eighteen performances run from April through July with one of the most immersive, state-of-the art audio and video technology experiences in Las Vegas.
