Gentry was arrested for marijuana and drug paraphernalia
Alabama bassist and backing vocalist Teddy Gentry has been arrested in Cherokee County, AL on drug charges. The 70 year old Fort Payne native was arrested and charged with misdemeanor second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to WHNT-TV.
He was booked to the Cherokee County Jail at 10:38 am and released at 11:06 am on Monday (Sept 12th). There’s no word on how much bond was listed.
A band’s spokesperson told the Associated Press that he was aware of the incident but had no immediate comment.
Gentry formed Alabama with Randy Owen and Jeff Cook in 1969. In the 1980’s, the group was in the forefront of country music becoming one of the most successful bands in the genre. They’ve reeled off 21 straight No. 1 singles and sold more than 73 million albums. They are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The group is currently on tour with their next date slated for September 23rd in Denver. It’s unclear if the arrest will impact any of the dates.
