The musical will feature the album’s 12 songs and more
Alanis Morrissette has announced that she is turning her 1995 smash album, Jagged Little Pill, into a Broadway musical. Morrissette is currently writing the musical which will feature all 12 of the album’s tracks, along with songs from other albums and new tunes written specifically for the musical.
The singer has enlisted Arvind Ethan David and Vivek J. Tiwary to produce the project. Tiwary was behind the Broadway adaptation of Green Day’s hugely successful American Idiot: The Musical. Tony Award winner Tom Kitt will provide orchestrations and arrangements for the show.
“I look forward to taking the heart of Jagged Little Pill and expanding its story, fleshing it out into ever deeper layers of emotionality, specificity, humanity, power, physicality, spirit and fabulism,” Morrissette states in a press release. “I look forward to collaborating with Vivek and Tom and our whole inspiring team to create something greater than the sum of our parts.”
According to Billboard, Jagged Little Pill sold over 33 million copies worldwide and is recognized as the highest selling album of the ’90s. Half of the album’s 12 tracks were successful singles including “You Oughta Know,” with won a Grammy for Best Rock Song.
No casting announcements have been made yet, but the musical is expected to debut sometime in 2014.
