The band is expected to return to the stage this summer
Alice in Chains has canceled the remainder of their May 2025 tour dates after drummer Sean Kinney fell ill last night (Thurs, May 8th). The band canceled its concert yesterday after Kinney experienced a “non-life-threatening medical emergency” after the band’s soundcheck in Uncasville, CT. Now, they have scrapped all upcoming festival and headlining shows through the end of the month.
“After careful consideration and following the advise of medical professionals, we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming festival performances and the Alice in Chains headline shows,” the band writes. “While were all eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health is our top priority at this moment. Although the issue requires immediate attention, his long-term prognosis is positive. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time.”
No further details were revealed about Kinney’s condition.
Canceled appearances include Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville and headlining shows in Nashville and others. The next date the 90s grunge rockers have scheduled is the all-star Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne final performance on July 5th in London.
Alice in Chains achieved significant success in the 90s with albums like Facelift, Dirt, and the self-titled Alice in Chains, as well as the EP Jar of Flies. The band faced periods of inactivity due to Layne Staley’s struggles with substance abuse, which tragically led to his death in 2002.
The band reunited in 2005 and with the addition of William DuVall in 2006, they have released three more studio albums: Black Gives Way to Blue in 2009, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here in 2013, and Rainier Fog in 2018. They have sold over 30 million records worldwide and have received eleven Grammy Award nominations.
