Bidding starts at $30k

Nate D. Sanders is auctioning what it describes as a “personally designed custom guitar, owned and played onstage” by Eddie Van Halen on December 10th. The auction house says the signed Charvel guitar was played by the late musician on February 16, 2008 in Jacksonville, FL with the rocker using a silver marker to sign his name, the concert date, and “Van Halen ’08.”

The guitar comes in a custom EVH (Eddie Van Halen) Charvel guitar case with COA signed by Eddie Van Halen showing serial number of 173, matching EVH plate on guitar.

Bidding for the guitar begins at $30k via its website.

This auction follows the sale of three Eddie Van Halen guitars that sold for a combined $422k via Julien’s Auctions last week and was highly criticized by Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang. Those guitars were also described as having been played, used and designed by Van Halen and were labeled “iconic” by Julien’s Auctions.

However, Wolfgang accused the auction house of “taking advantage of the situation and selling anything that had to do with my father,” after seeing the listing. He says the guitars were not the iconic Frankenstein or Shark and he had nothing to do with the auction, and one was a gift.

“They weren’t stage guitars. I had nothing to do with this. I don’t EVER plan on selling any of my father’s iconic guitars. The only place they’d possibly belong in is a museum,” he shares.

“Also one was a gift. I don’t know who’d want to give that away. Timing is a little fishy to me. Oh wait, scratch that. It WASN’T for charity. They’re just taking advantage of my father’s passing. What a surprise. Fuck ‘em.”

As of this writing, Wolfgang hasn’t commented on the legitimacy of this auction.
