As I Lay Dying singer arrested for murder-for-hire plot

An investigation began on May 2nd

Tim Lambesis, leader singer of the Christian metal band As I Lay Dying, has been arrested in an alleged murder-for-hire plot.  ABC News reports that Lambesis was taken into custody at 2 pm Tuesday (May 7th) while shopping at a retail business in Oceanside, CA. The 32 year old was charged on three federal counts — one count of solicitation to commit murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit crime.

Court records indicate the investigation began May 2nd when detectives received information that the singer had solicited an undercover officer to kill his estranged wife, Meggan, who lives in nearby Encinitas, as the couple were going through a divorce.  Detectives kept guard over Meggan over the weekend as they waited for Lambesis to return from a tour in Asia.

The couple has three adopted children from Ethiopia.

No further details were released at press time.

Lambesis is a founding member of As I Lay Dying, which was formed in San Diego in 2000. The band has released six albums, including 2007’s An Ocean Between Us, which reached Number 8 on Billboard’s charts.  The band was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008, and their last album, Awakened, came out in September on Metal Blade Records.
