The event starts August 5th

AXS TV celebrates the 50th anniversary of one of America’s most important counter cultural revolutions with a month-long event in the Summer of Love Saturdays block—airing every weekend from August 5th through August 26th. The special event commemorates the summer of 1967, when 100,000 “flower children” descended upon San Francisco’s iconic Haight-Ashbury district, eschewing politics and social norms in favor of love, art, and music. The Summer Of Love was headlined by the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival, and the Monterey Pop Festival, which both featured unforgettable performances from some of rock’s most influential acts.

The month kicks off on August 5th with a tribute block dedicated to groundbreaking guitarist Jerry Garcia and rock n’ roll pioneers The Grateful Dead, in honor of Garcia’s birthday on August 1st, as well as the anniversary of his passing on August 9th. The night begins at 7 pm ET with an in-depth look at the enduring legacy of The Grateful Dead in Rock Legends: The Grateful Dead. Then, Sammy Hagar heads to San Francisco to hang with founding members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart to discuss the peace and love movement, their musical influences, and what made The Dead so special in Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar at 7:30 pm ET; and Weir opens up about his incredible career on The Big Interview with Dan Rather at 8 pm ET. The night comes to a close at 9 pm ET, as prolific guitarist and Grateful Dead collaborator Warren Haynes joins the Colorado Symphony for an incredible evening of music devoted to the life, legacy, and extraordinary contributions of Jerry Garcia in the premiere of Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes at 9 pm ET.

The festivities continue on August 12th with encore broadcasts of The Big Interview with Bob Weir at 4 pm ET and Rock Legends: The Grateful Dead at 5 pm ET, leading into a day of profiles covering some of the Summer Of Love’s biggest bands in the Rock Legends marathon. Featured episodes include Southern Rock superstars Creedence Clearwater Revival at 5:30 pm ET; psychedelic masterminds Jefferson Airplane at 6 pm ET; blues rock trailblazer Janis Joplin at 6:30 pm ET; folk rock foursome The Mamas & The Papas at 7 pm ET; acid rock legends The Doors at 7:30 pm ET; and guitar virtuoso Jimi Hendrix at 8 pm ET; rounded out by the premiere of Rock Legends: Otis Redding at 8:30 pm ET.

The night is headlined by the premiere of the rock doc Summer Of Love at 9 pm ET, taking viewers into the heart of the peace and love movement of 1967 with rare archive footage and insightful interviews with experts who experienced it firsthand. The film follows the movement from its conception in the clubs of London all the way to its explosion in San Francisco, painting a vivid picture of the scene, the music, the art, the films, the War, the fashion, and even the cars that fueled the counterculture and defined a generation. Contributors include journalist Bob Simon, Radio Caroline DJs Johnny Walker and Annie Nightingale, and film producer Simon Crocker, among others.

Then, a cross-genre line-up of music superstars—including Peter Frampton, Eric Church, Grace Potter and more—join Grateful dead founding members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann on stage in the premiere of Dear Jerry: Celebrating the Music of Jerry Garcia on Saturday, August 19th at 9 pm ET. Taped live at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland, this 2015 concert special also features appearances by Allen Toussaint, Buddy Miller, David Grisman, Jimmy Cliff, Jorma Kaukonen, Los Lobos, Moe, O.A.R., the Disco Biscuits, Trampled by Turtles, Widespread Panic and Yonder Mountain String Band.

Leading up to the August 19th premiere, AXS TV will feature a marathon of Rock Legends all evening, along with The Monkees – Live From the Bomb Factory at 7 pm ET and an encore airing of the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes at 7:30 pm ET.
