Trio’s new single is EDM-infused pop

Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum selling sibling trio The Band Perry release their brand new single, “The Good Life.” The beat-driven pop-track – written by Kim, Neil and Reid Perry & Owen Thomas, with production by ARTRAT – further expands the band’s genre-defying musical style.

On the eve of the song’s release, Kim posted this passionate statement to the band’s Instagram page, detailing the inspiration and deeply personal story behind the “The Good Life:”

“‘The Good Life’ is a story about the infidelity I experienced. I want you to know that this song was written during a toxic and incredibly difficult time in my life, but I’m singing it to you now with the voice of a woman who has completely regained a strong sense of self, rebuilt her womanhood, and is grateful to have learned so much.

“The lyrics in this song are visceral and strong, just as the feelings have been. I feel empowered by them. I hope they empower you to know your value, and if you find yourself in an environment where someone makes you feel disrespected and degraded, I want you to know that you deserve so much more. It’s ok that things don’t go as planned and it’s also ok to not have a new plan yet.

“And for those who tell lies, who take advantage of others’ trust and dignity – DO BETTER.

“I’m so grateful to be here and to blow out candles celebrating another year in my good life. Thank you for caring about my story and for listening. The song coming out tonight is one I needed to make to remind myself that my life is not defined by one ugly situation, my body is not diminished by one uninterested person, and my self-worth is not determined by anyone else’s words or behavior. Neither is yours.”

Reid and Neil Perry both offered additional insight into the creation of “The Good Life,” along with a teaser for the rest of the material that the band will be releasing throughout the year.

“I’m not known for eloquence with words or heartfuI melodies. I’m much more primitive than that. I express myself through sounds and noises. Making tracks is my favorite part of what I do with TBP. I’ll spend hours on my computer manipulating sounds until it’s repping the way I feel,” Reid shares.

“I loved building THE GOOD LIFE. The synths, distorted basses, and the drums all sound exactly like what I was feeling during my sister’s hardest year and conveys my support.

“If you know someone who is hurting – be a strong shoulder. Remind them of their value. Every life is good!

“Kimberly’s journey thru this song is one of many journeys we are about to take you on. Can’t wait for you to hear all we’ve been building for you.”

Neil writes, “It’s a blunt lyric. Words are what I contribute the most to TBP. It was super hard, as a brother, to see my sister in pain and watching her self-worth be questioned. I was like how do I handle this moment? How can I help?

“I decided the best thing I could do was listen, to be her sounding board as she worked thru her feelings and navigated them into art. I encouraged her to not sugarcoat anything in flowery language, just to be honest in the song. I thought if we could do that, we’d find closure and be encouraged. Even tho THE GOOD LIFE sounds so personal, this is a feeling we’ve all felt, a song we all can sing along to.

“Relationships of all kinds let us down from time to time. Sometimes people make us feel like we are less than we are. But our humanity is ours to protect and we all deserve to live THE GOOD LIFE.”

The release of “The Good Life” follows The Band Perry’s latest EP, Coordinates – written and produced by the band and executive produced by Rick Rubin – released in September 2018. The EP, described by Billboard as “contemporary pop…with plenty of rich ambience and electronic enhancements” and “both electronically focused and intimate” by Variety, marked their first body of work as independent artists and indicated a brand new chapter for the band, as they continue expanding their musical boundaries.

The Band Perry has sold over two and a half million albums, thirteen million singles, and garnered over 1.75 billion combined streams to date. They’ve scored five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Country Chart, a No. 1 single on the Hot AC Charts, seven songs RIAA certified gold or platinum, and in 2015, bringing home their first Grammy Award. Known for their boundary-pushing live performances, the band’s combination of music, fashion, and visual art has seen them perform on some of TV’s biggest stages, including Ellen, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more.
