Song premiered on NBC

If you were watching NFL Sunday Night Football last night (Sun, Sept 25th) and thought you’d hallucinated Beck covering “Old Man” rendered in stark black and white, don’t worry, you’re not losing your mind. The 8x Grammy winner has released his sublime version of the 1972 Neil Young classic performed in that NBC Sports ad as a standalone digital single, available now.

The NBC Sports spot promotes the upcoming Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs game, while highlighting the song’s lyric “24 and there’s so much more” in homage to quarterbacks Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes’ shared achievement of winning Super Bowls at the age of 24.

It’s unclear if the song was recorded specifically for the broadcast or if it will appear on a forthcoming album.

Beck is on the road this fall supporting Arcade Fire with an opening nightly acoustic set. Dates kick off October 27th with back to back nights in Washington, DC with additional two night stands in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto. Additional stops include Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, Vancouver and more before wrapping December 3rd in Montreal.

Seven dates have sold out with tickets still available via Ticketmaster.
