Billy Joel restarting MSG residency; SiriusXM channel returns

Residency continues Nov 5th

Billy Joel is returning to Madison Square Garden for his record-breaking monthly residency that began in January 2014. Six rescheduled shows have been announced for November 5th, December 20th, January 14th, February 12th, March 24th and April 8th. Tickets available via Ticketmaster. These will be his 74th-79th shows at the legendary New York City venue.

In addition, The Billy Joel Channel returns to SiriusXM from October 1st through November 2nd on channel 70. The exclusive limited run channel will feature music spanning Joel’s decades-long career, including songs from his live and studio albums, as well as him telling stories about his music and beyond. Before anywhere else, the channel will air never-before-heard tracks from Joel’s Live at The Great American Music Hall – 1975 concert featured in The Vinyl Collection, Vol. 1 box set, due out on November 5th via Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings.

Listeners will also hear celebrity guest DJ specials, a fantasy concert featuring performances of songs from Joel’s classic album The Stranger, Billy Joel: An Evening of Questions and Answers, and a little music too from the Faena Theater in Miami Beach, and much more.

The channel will also feature specials with Joel collaborators and fans, including guest DJ shows from Garth Brooks, Don Henley, Andrew McMahon, and Mark Rivera. Additionally listeners will hear two new BJ The DJ specials hosted by Joel (“Billy’s Favorite ’60s Records” and “3-Instrument Bands“) and a special guest DJ show hosted by the grand prize winner of our recent “Sing Us A Song” contest, where SXM invited fans and subscribers to submit an original cover performance of their favorite Joel song.

A definitive 9 LP library chronicling Billy Joel’s evolution as a songwriter, performer and recording artist during his rise from obscurity to international superstardom in the 1970s, The Vinyl Collection, Vol. 1 brings together the artist’s first six solo studio albums (Cold Spring Harbor, Piano Man, Streetlife Serenade, Turnstiles, The Stranger, 52nd Street) with his first live album (Songs in the Attic) and an exclusive pressing of Live at The Great American Music Hall – 1975, a previously unreleased concert recording available for the first time in the boxset as a double 12″ vinyl album. All titles have been sourced from the original album tapes and prepared by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound. The boxset includes a 50+ page booklet highlighting Joel’s early career through archival photos, an essay by Anthony DeCurtis, Joel’s personal observations and insights on his songs and albums, and tributes from his fellow musicians, artists and celebrities.

Joel will be releasing the first-ever video for “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” tomorrow (Thurs, Sept 30th) at 10 am ET on Joel’s YouTube channel. The animated clip has been in the works for a year.
