Billy Joel returns to road during MSG residency

Billy Joel has announced several North American tour dates in-between dates of his monthly residency at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden in 2014. Joel has will be hitting Nashville, Hollywood, Las Vegas, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Tampa, Jacksonville and more through June with the possibility of more dates being added throughout the year.

The Piano Man took a three year break at the completion of his Face 2 Face Tour with Elton John in 2010, and returned to the road in 2013 to play a few North American festivals and several European shows.

Joel told Rolling Stone last year that he’d contemplate retiring if those shows weren’t satisfying enough, “I’m putting my toe back into the water to see how performing feels. That doesn’t mean I’m going to walk away right after if I don’t like how they go, but if I do like how they go, I’ll probably end up booking some more gigs. I don’t know if I’ll go an extended tour like Bruce Springsteen, hammering away for two years, though.”

In early December, Joel announced that he will become the first-ever music franchise of “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” performing once per month at Madison Square Garden starting January 27th as long as there’s demand. Most MSG shows are already or nearly sold out with performances scheduled through September as of press time. More dates could be added through the end of the year. Joel has expressed that he may perform complete albums at these shows along with some of his biggest hits.

Joel was the first performer of 2014 during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest performing his classic “You May Be Right” from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY on January 1st.

Tickets to all shows can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
