“Old Town Road” tops Billboard Hot 100 for 17 straight weeks

No other artist in the history of music has ever achieved what Billy Ray Cyrus has accomplished. The singer/songwriter and worldwide entertainment icon hailing from Flatwoods, Kentucky shattered records when “Old Town Road,” his collaboration with Lil Nas X, charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 17 consecutive weeks. Cyrus also holds the record for 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 all-genre albums chart in 1992 with Some Gave All.

“17 is my new favorite number! 17 weeks No. 1 single ‘Old Town Road.’ 17 weeks No. 1 album Some Gave All,” Cyrus states. “My goal was always to make music that would touch people’s lives around the world.”

“Old Town Road” (Columbia Records) also leads Streaming Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for 17 weeks each, according to Billboard. The duo have surpassed records broken by Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” at 16 weeks in December 1995, Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk!” at 14 in January 2015, and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” at 14 in November 1992, among others.

The cultural phenomenon that is “Old Town Road” has achieved RIAA diamond status of more than ten million units. The star-studded music video for the track has exceeded 230 million views since released in May. Recently, Lionsgate unleashed a trailer featuring “Old Town Road” to promote the September 20th release of Rambo: Last Blood starring Sylvester Stallone.
