Bleachers set for ‘MTV Unplugged’

The group appear in the second episode of the revived series

MTV has announced that Bleachers will take to the MTV Unplugged stage for an intimate and spirited set of current hits and chart-topping classics. The Jack Antonoff fronted group will be joined by special guests Lorde and Carly Rae Jepsen when it premieres on Friday, September 15th at 8 pm ET/PT globally. The special taped at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ.

Unplugged was the first time I played the songs from Gone Now live,” Antonoff says in a statement. “I had just finished making the album and I immediately went into to rehearsal deconstructing the songs I had just produced to play live at Unplugged. It was all months before the world heard it and we got to change the arrangements at my favorite venue in the world with a small room full of people who had no cell phones. I grew up playing shows at the Stone Pony and watching Unplugged on TV. It was incredible to bring these two together.”

MTV announced last week that it was reviving MTV Unplugged with an eclectic, superstar lineup of global pop culture artists. The network’s groundbreaking Grammy and Emmy award-winning franchise returns to the airwaves on Friday, September 8th with Shawn Mendes.

Bleachers’ sophomore album Gone Now was released on June 2nd on RCA Records. The first single off of the album, Don’t Take The Money hit No. 2 at Alternative Radio. Ahead of the album’s release, The New York Times put out a glorifying profile piece on Antonoff. The article, which appeared in the Sunday edition of the paper, states that the band’s new music is “anthemic, life-affirming pop-rock.” Bleachers will be heading out this fall on their Gone Now Era headlining tour.

Since its debut in 1989, Unplugged has been a cultural watershed of musical moments, featuring unforgettable performances from artists including Nirvana, Jay-Z, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Adele and Florence + The Machine.
