Trouble No More, a feature-length presentation starring Bob Dylan, debuts Monday, February 26th from 10-11 pm ET/PT exclusively on Cinemax. The film is part of the Bob Dylan – Trouble No More – The Bootleg Series Vol. 13 / 1979-1981 box set which was released on November 3rd via Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings on a variety of formats.
Directed by Jennifer Lebeau, the hour long film spotlights Dylan’s passionate, faith-based music, featuring electrifying, digitally restored footage from concerts in Toronto and Buffalo in late-April and early-May 1980, which is interspersed with fiery sermons written by Luc Sante and delivered by Michael Shannon (HBO Films’ upcoming Fahrenheit 451; Oscar nominee for Nocturnal Animals and Revolutionary Road).
Bob Dylan’s controversial “gospel” period began with the release of the album Slow Train Coming (1979), which was followed by Saved (1980) and ended with Shot of Love (1981). Trouble No More showcases one of Dylan’s most exciting bands, consisting of Spooner Oldham and Terry Young on keyboards, Fred Tackett on guitar, Tim Drummond on bass, Jim Keltner on drums and backing singers Clydie King, Gwen Evans, Mona Lisa Young, Regina McCrary and Mary Elizabeth Bridges.
The film debuted at the 2017 New York Film Festival.
On January 19th, MVD Entertainment Group marked the 15th anniversary of the GRAMMY-nominated album Gotta Serve Somebody: The Gospel Songs of Bob Dylan with a DVD reissue the film. Gotta Serve Somebody: The Gospel Songs of Bob Dylan features an intense Bob Dylan performance from 1980 of “When He Returns” as well as powerful performances and interviews with Aaron Neville, Shirley Caesar, Fairfield Four, Mighty Clouds of Joy, and Dottie Peoples, reflecting on their faith and connections to Dylan’s Christian music.
