Bon Jovi to release self-titled debut deluxe edition on CD

The 2 CD set will be available in November

Eleven months after its digital and vinyl announcement, Bon Jovi will release the 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of its debut album on CD. The two-disc set will feature 18 tracks with rare audio, and be available on November 22nd via UMe.

Bon Jovi Deluxe Edition consists of the remastered original album and nine bonus tracks, including unreleased studio recordings and four rare live cuts. Jon Bon Jovi co-produced the package alongside longtime sound engineer Obie O’Brien who also mixed the bonus material.

This expanded version showcases the evolution of “Runaway”—from Jon’s original cassette writing demo, the band’s early run-through, and a full alternate take, to an extended version of the band’s first hit with a ripping second guitar lead. It also features an early incarnation of “Come Back” where Jon sings his idea for a guitar solo.

The live tracks were recorded during the group’s 1985 shows in Tokyo, which were first available on the CD release Bon Jovi: Special Edition in 2010. The live tracks have been newly mixed for Bon Jovi Deluxe Edition.

Bon Jovi has ignited a renaissance amid their 40th anniversary this year. The group impressively claimed five spots on the Billboard Hard Rock Digital Song Sales Chart with “Livin’ On A Prayer” at No. 1, “It’s My Life” at No. 3, “You Give Love A Bad Name” at No. 4, “Wanted Dead Or Alive” at No. 6, and “Runaway” at No 8 earlier this year, garnering interest from the band’s Hulu documentary, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, which premiered in March.

“Livin’ on a Prayer” was recently certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for achieving ten million in US sales and streams. Last year, “Prayer” gave the New Jersey rockers its second video in YouTube’s Billion Views Club. They have earned three with “Always” and “You Give Love A Bad Name.”

In June, the group released its 16th studio album, Forever, via Island Records. The album features the blockbuster single “Legendary” along with “Living Proof.” Upon its release in March, “Legendary” vaulted to the top of the Billboard Digital Song Sales Chart and No. 2 on the Rock Digital Song Sales Chart, climbing to the Top 20 on the Adult Pop Airplay Chart.

In conjunction with the 66th annual Grammy Awards, Jon Bon Jovi was named 2024 MusiCares Person Of The Year and was honored with an all-star tribute concert at the LA Convention Center featuring Bruce Springsteen, Shania Twain, Melissa Etheridge, Sammy Hagar, Jason Isbell, Jelly Roll, Pat Monahan of Train, and many others.

Last fall, the band teamed with Hasbro for a Bon Jovi-branded version of Monopoly. The Hasbro-produced game includes six collectible tokens — 40th Anniversary Heart & Dagger logo, The Have a Nice Day Smirk Face, The Diamond Superman Logo, the band’s home state of New Jersey, the classic Skull logo, and Jon Bon Jovi’s Famous Acoustic Guitar.

In June, the band opened JBJ’s Nashville in Nashville’s Lower Broadway honky-tonk bar district. Positioned to stand out amid traditional bars on the strip, JBJ’s towers as the tallest and second largest bar by square footage, boasting 37,000 square feet dedicated to a rock ‘n’ roll revolution along with carrying forward the roots of country music from Nashville’s storied history.

The band is set to release a Japanese-only box set, All Time Best 1984-2024this fall with comprised of a fan-voted track listing of 50 songs. The collection spans 3 CDs and one Blu-ray Disc with a slimmed-down version compiled for a single CD release. Originally scheduled for an October 9th release, the set has been pushed to November 6th due to production issues, according to Universal Music Group Japan.

This fall, Genesis Publications and Bon Jovi will release Bon Jovi Forever, a forthcoming book to celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary. Bon Jovi has given Genesis unprecedented access to their entire archive to take fans on a thrilling journey through the band’s phenomenal 40 years. Exclusive text from Jon Bon Jovi will expound on the archive material, which includes handwritten lyrics, clothing worn on and off stage and in music videos, guitars, studio track lists, photographs from the band’s collections, tour passes, posters and much, much more. In addition, a selection of the very best photography of the band – live, backstage, on tour and in the studio – will make this book the ultimate historical document of Bon Jovi.
