Bon Jovi’s ‘It’s My Life’ surpasses one billion Spotify streams

The song is the band’s third to capture a billion-plus streams on the platform

Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life” has surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. The track was the lead single from their 2000 album, Crush, which introduced them to a new and younger audience with a more poppier sound than its predecessors.

“Thank you for 1 billion @Spotify streams on ‘It’s My Life’ 🤘,” the band shares on social media.

The track was written by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, and Max Martin. The song pays homage to fellow New Jersian Frank Sinatra with lyrics, “Like Frankie said, I did it my way.” It also references the fictional working class couple Tommy and Gina from 1986’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and saw Sambora return with a talk box.

The track, released in June 2000, peaked at No. 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts throughout Europe.

“It’s My Life” is the third Bon Jovi song to join the Spotify Billions Club after “Livin’ on a Prayer” in January 2023 and “You Give Love A Bad Name” in June 2024.

The band’s music is also popular on YouTube, with three videos in the YouTube Billions Club. “It’s My Life” was the first in July 2021 followed by “Livin on a Prayer” in February 2023, and “Always” in March 2024.

Last year, the band ignited a renaissance amid their 40th anniversary. The legendary group impressively claimed five spots on the Billboard Hard Rock Digital Song Sales Chart with “Livin’ On A Prayer” at No. 1, “It’s My Life” at No. 3, “You Give Love A Bad Name” at No. 4, “Wanted Dead Or Alive” at No. 6, and “Runaway” at No 8.

They also let cameras inside their lives for the career-spanning four-part docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story on Huulu. The series was made with full cooperation from all past and present members of Bon Jovi. The docu-series is a ROS production, the banner of filmmaker Gotham Chopra.

Last June, the band released Forever, via Island Records. The album features the blockbuster single “Legendary” along with “Living Proof.” Upon its release in March, “Legendary” vaulted to the top of the Billboard Digital Song Sales Chart and No. 2 on the Rock Digital Song Sales Chart, climbing to the Top 20 on the Adult Pop Airplay Chart.

Guitarist Phil X confirms the band is working on new music with a possible tour in the works.
