Bonzo Birthday Bash invades the East Coast this summer

“The ultimate celebration to the ultimate drummer” honoring the late John Bonham will perform outside of the Los Angeles area for the first time this summer. East Coast fans will get the chance to see Bonzo Birthday Bash as it celebrates the 65th birthday of Led Zeppelin’s legendary stick man for three shows in New York and New Jersey on May 30th, 31st and June 1st.

Drummer Brian Tichy and his promoter partner Joe Sutton founded the event in September 2010, then known as The Groove Remains The Same, which brought 18 of the world’s best drummers together on one drum kit in West Hollywood, CA. The last show was the most talked about performance of this year’s winter NAMM convention in Anaheim with more than 30 drummers and 52 performers playing over the course of five hours. In total, more than 50 drummers and 30 guests have performed over 100 songs during the five show marathon.

“I had this idea back in 2010 when one day it occurred to me that John Bonham and Led Zeppelin were the only band I had never stopped listening to for over 30 years,” Tichy states. “The idea literally came to me in that instant. I was going to go for a backyard party or a kegger in a rehearsal room, but then figured if all these drummers actually get together and make it a ‘thing,’ it should be made available for people to see so I talked to promoter Joe Sutton who had the night on hold at Key Club and that was that!”

Bonzo Birthday Bash allows each drummer participating to pick their favorite Zeppelin song and play on a replica amber acrylic Natal drum kit with the house band, The Moby Dicks, named in honor of Bonham’s famous drum solo. It is one of the most requested musical events people want to see on the road. As the show makes its debut on the East Coast, many drummers will be participating for the first time including Liberty DeVitto and Antog Fig, among others.

Ticket prices range from $20-$55 with all fees included.
