Stamps and other items available May 28th

The British Royal Mail is honoring Paul McCartney with a variety of postal collectibles that highlights a classic album from his solo career and his time with Wings. The focus is around a collection of eight Special Stamps, which include iconic solo and Wings albums – from 1970’s self-titled debut to last year’s home-recorded lockdown release McCartney III.

Nearly 40 limited edition offerings are available that include postcards, framed artwork, folders and more that will be available beginning May 28th via the Royal Mail’s online shop.

Among the highlights include two highly collectible medals struck by The Royal Mint in the shape of a plectrum with engraved illustrations on both sides. Each is limited to 10,000 and includes a sheet stamp. One showcases key albums in McCartney’s musical journey from 1970 onwards that are handstamped with a special postmark featuring the silhouette of a piano and London NW8 representing Abbey Road Studios. The medal itself features a psychedelic motif taken from the Wings Over Europe tour bus and McCartney’s signature on the reverse.

The second medal explores the importance of home studio recording throughout McCartney’s career and his desire to push himself outside of his comfort zone in search of new sounds and styles. Its cover contains rare photos of McCartney working in the studio. The medal is the first of its kind and depicts a Höfner bass guitar on the front and McCartney’s signature on the reverse.

Each medal will also be offered in .925 Ag Sterling Silver with specially polished dies to achieve a stunning mirrored and frosted finish to the design. Only 1,000 of each variant will be produced.

Various bundles and other souvenirs are also available.
