The film takes fans into the life of Springsteen and his longtime band
Disney+ will premiere the new documentary film, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, on October 25th.
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band offer the most in-depth look ever at their legendary live performances – sharing fly-on-the-wall footage of band rehearsals and special moments backstage – and hearing directly from Springsteen on the topic. Fans get to experience professionally shot footage from the 2023-2024 tour for the first time while following the band through their one-of-a-kind preparation process and onto performances for tens of thousands across continents.
The film made its premiere at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival over the weekend. Springsteen’s wife and longtime E Street Band member, Patti Scialfa, addresses her 2018 blood cancer diagnosis in the film.
“This affects my immune system, so I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go,” she says. “Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs on stage, and that’s been a treat. That’s the new normal for me right now, and I’m okay with that.”
The film was directed by Springsteen’s longtime collaborator, Emmy and Grammy Award winner Thom Zimny (Western Stars, The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash, Springsteen on Broadway, Willie Nelson & Family, Sly), and produced by Zimny, Jon Landau, Bruce Springsteen, Adrienne Gerard and Sean Stuart.
The group is on the final leg of its 2023-2024 tour with shows scheduled through November in North America.
Springsteen’s honors and accolades include 20 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, a special Tony Award, the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, a Kennedy Center Honor, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. The Boss is also one of the world’s most in-demand artists, topping 140 million records sold across the globe, more than 70 million in the United States alone, and becoming the first artist in history with a top-five album in six consecutive decades. Springsteen is also one of only four artists to sell more than 20 million concert tickets since 1980, including the highest-grossing worldwide tours of 2012 and 2016.
