Western Stars was released on June 14th

Bruce Springsteen is prepping to release a film for his latest album with the E Street Band, Western Stars. The singer/songwriter isn’t planning to tour behind the project, so he has put together a film to support it instead.

“We made a film of us playing the Western Stars album start to finish, plus some other things,” he tells SiriusXM’s E Street Radio hosts Dave Marsh and Jim Rotolo during a recent phone call. “I knew we weren’t going to tour, so I figured this was the best way to do it. It is looking good — that will be exciting. It will be out in the calendar year.”

Springsteen confirms that Thom Zimny, who was at the helm of the Netflix concert film Springsteen on Broadway released last year and Bruce Springsteen: Hunter of Invisible Game from 2004, directed the Western Stars film.

Western Stars is Springsteen’s first full studio album in five years. The album, which Esquire calls “his best new work in a decade,” has been No. 1 at both iTunes’ and Amazon’s album charts in the United States. Springsteen’s 19th studio album debuted at No. 1 on the UK album chart, giving him 11 No. 1’s there and placing him alongside David Bowie and the Rolling Stones as one of the Top 5 acts with the most No. 1 UK albums.

Several Springsteen rarities can be found on the upcoming soundtrack to the film Blinded By The Light. The album will be available on August 9th via Sony Legacy Recordings and feature an unreleased studio rendition of “I’ll Stand By You,” previously known as I’ll Stand By You Always” initially for inclusion in the 2001 Harry Potter film, but producers opted not to include the track, and it’s remained unreleased until now.

Rare live gems also featured are the first ever performance of “The River,” from the No Nukes ’79 concert at Madison Square Garden, and an acoustic rendition of ” The Promised Land” that Springsteen performed in 2014 at Washington, D.C.’s National Mall. Both live tracks are previously unreleased on any album.
