BTS ‘Dynamite’ debuts at No 1

BTS is the first Korean pop act in history to top the Hot 100

Global superstars BTS’ mega-hit “Dynamite” debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. This feat is not only an all time high for the band, but makes them the first Korean pop act to top the chart.

According to Billboard, “Dynamite” “roars in with 33.9 million U.S. streams and 300,000 sold” and marked the biggest digital sales week in nearly three years since Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” launched in September 2017.

BTS has been shattering record after record with their latest single “Dynamite” performed fully in English. The music video reached new heights on YouTube, amassing 101.1 million views within 24 hours after its release and garnering over three million peak concurrent viewers immediately upon release. The song has also topped the iTunes charts in 104 regions, and Spotify’s “Global Top 50” chart, the very first for a Korean act.

They recently performed “Dynamite” for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards, where they won all four categories they were nominated for including Best Pop, Best Group, Best K-Pop and Best Choreography.

“Dynamite” comes only six months after their last album, Map Of The Soul : 7, was released in February 2020. In the new single, BTS sings of joy and confidence, treasuring the little things in life that make life truly valuable and special. The song aims to bring a new surge of much-needed “energy” to reinvigorate the global community in the midst of COVID-19. Creative contributors to “Dynamite” include David Stewart and Jessica Agombar, known for “What A Man Gotta Do” by the Jonas Brothers and “I Love You’s” by Hailee Steinfeld.
