BTS launches ‘Graphic Lyrics’ series; donates $1m to Crew Nation

Project presents a new way to enjoy BTS songs through graphic books

A new project by Big Hit named “Graphic Lyrics” is slated for release. The project is a new series that translates music lyrics into graphic in the form of graphic books and BTS will kickstart the project. Five of the bands’ widely loved songs – “A Supplementary Story : You Never Walk Alone,” “Save ME,” “House Of Cards,” “ RUN” and “Butterfly”- will be published for “Graphic Lyrics.”

The project is a new form of content that continues the reinterpretation of “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life” that was previously relayed in the music video and novel “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: The Notes 1” and web comics “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 0 ”. With the central theme “We can laugh when we’re together,” each book includes graphics of different ambience that match the lyrics of the songs.

Starting June 21st, teasers of the “Graphic Lyrics” have been unveiled consecutively on Big Hit Official Merch and BTS social channels. The first teaser featured a butterfly gliding into the screen after which the “Graphic Lyrics” logo using the repeat sign as a motif emerges and is accompanied by melodious piano strings playing in the background. In the main trailer that followed, five, distinct “Graphic Lyrics” illustrations were introduced along moving illustrations of the seven members, song lyrics and the butterfly from the first teaser.

“With ‘Graphic Lyrics,’ we are introducing a new way of enjoying music for the first time with BTS songs and are planning to continue the series with Big Hit’s multi-label artists as well” states Big Hit Entertainment, adding that “we expect the ‘Graphic Lyrics’ series, which captures the sensitivity of paper books by translating music in writing and painting, to be a unique experience not only for BTS fans but also for the public audience.”

Presale for the “Graphic Lyrics” is available from June 24th at 10 am KST/June 23rd at 9 pm EST at stores across Korea, U.S. and Japan including Big Hit’s commerce platform Weverse Shop, Amazon and so forth. Presale ends on June 28tjh, after which regular sales will start from June 29th.

BTS and Big Hit Entertainment have donated $1 million to the Crew Nation campaign. This is one of the largest artist donations that has been raised for the Crew Nation fund since its conception.

Launched in March, Crew Nation was created to support the live concert crews across the globe who have been impacted by COVID-19. Live Nation kicked off the campaign by donating an initial $5 million USD and matching a further $5 million USD given by artists, fans and employees, dollar for dollar. The fund provides a one-time grant of $1k USD to crew members who make 50% or more of their income from live performances.

Over 70 live concert crew members who were originally scheduled to work at BTS’ concerts before the postponement (or cancellation) due to COVID-19 have received funding so far, 20% of whom are veteran crews who have worked in live performance industry for over 16 years. This contribution will help aid 1,000 live concert crews to receive relief. All nationalities, including Koreans, can apply for the Crew Nation fund.

“If it weren’t for COVID-19, we would have been happily touring across the world with many of our live concert crews by now,” states the group. “We are aware that a lot of communities need help due to COVID-19, and we wanted to support the music industry crews by making a donation. We hope to meet again on stage very soon.”

BTS and Big Hit completed the donation earlier in June.
