BTS’ global domination on the singles chart for the third week with “Dynamite”

Global superstars BTS take the top spot on Billboard Hot 100 chart for the third time with their record shattering single “Dynamite.” BTS proves they’re here to stay, securing their place as the new face of pop with their return to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

According to Billboard, “Dynamite” returns to No. 1 from the runner-up spot on the strength of 14 million U.S. streams (up 11%) and 153,000 downloads sold (up 96%) in the week ending September 24th. The single also set several remarkable records: the first song among duos or groups to tally at least three weeks at No. 1 in almost two years, since Maroon’s “Girls Like You” featuring Cardi B and the first song to top Digital Song Sales for five weeks since Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts”.

As the new face of pop, BTS is taking their place as this generation’s icons. “Dynamite” re-surging at the top of the Billboard chart shows they have reached yet another significant milestone for K-pop in the global scene, particularly in the US. The septet once again demonstrates that their message of hope during the pandemic has resonated among the global community and acted as a bridge to connect listeners around the world.

“Dynamite” is BTS’ latest English-sung single. The song debuted at No.1 on Billboard Hot 100 and maintained that feat for two consecutive weeks, a first for a Korean pop act. The official music video also became YouTube’s most viewed music video in its first 24 hours with 101.1 million views.

BTS is to keep their momentum with many more exciting projects throughout the end of the year. The pop superstars will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for a weeklong special starting this week. They are also on the cover of Variety, and the new online concert BTS MAP OF THE SOUL ON:E” will take place on October 10th and 11th. In November, their much anticipated new album Be (Deluxe Edition) will be released worldwide.

BTS’s fourth film, Break The Silence: The Movie, was set to be released in limited theaters beginning September 10th in Korea, but has been postponed due to the latest COVID-19 outbreak in Seoul. A new Korean premiere date will be announced by the end of September once the situation is more stabilized. Additional screenings begin September 24th with dates varying per territory and subject to change based on the status of local cinema re-openings due to the pandemic.

The group also just dropped a free single in partnership with Hyundai. The track, “IONIQ: I’m On It,” incorporates the now quintessential shape-shifting pop sound of BTS with slick and catchy melodies, while the reflective lyrics aide in exploring the individual moments fans can experience with Hyundai’s new EV brand, IONIQ.

“Dynamite” comes six months after the group’s most recent album, Map of the Soul : 7, which was released in February 2020. The project earned the superstars its fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.
