Song is rapper’s breakout single

Cardi B has made history as her major label debut single, “Bodak Yellow,” goes diamond for ten million certified units. She is the first female rapper to achieve RIAA diamond single status with the four year old single on Monday (March 8th).

“HUGE congrats to Cardi B as her smash hit ‘Bodak Yellow’ is now certified diamond. She is the first female rapper in HISTORY to achieve this,” the Recording Industry Association of America shares via Twitter.

Cardi B also made history upon its release in October 2017 when the single hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It made her the first female rapper to top the all-genre chart without other credited artists in 20 years, breaking Lauryn Hill’s first solo entry with “Doo Wop (That Thing) in November 1998, according to Billboard.

Cardi has become the second rapper in history to have every song on an album certified gold or above, and the second solo rapper to have a pair of Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles on a debut album. She’s also breaking records overseas as “I Like It” becomes the most-streamed song of all time by a female rapper in the UK, and marks the 20th most-streamed female record ever in the country.

As of this week, her latest single, “Up,” produced by DJ SwanQo & Young Dza, is No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its fourth week.
