Film debuts in theaters this fall
Sony Pictures Classics and Trafalgar Releasing have teamed for the global release ofย Carlos, an R-rated feature length documentary on 10-time Grammy winning Latin guitarist Carlos Santana. The film, which was first screened at Tribeca Festival earlier this year, makes its global premiere in theaters on September 23rd, 24th and 27th before receiving a general theatric release on September 29th.
The electric documentary Carlos utilizes new interviews with Santana and his family alongside extraordinary, never-before-seen archival footage โ including home video recordings Santana himself made; concert footage; and behind-the-scenes moments โ as two-time Emmy-winning director Rudy Valdez (The Sentence, Through Our Eyes, We Are: The Brooklyn Saints) creates an intimate, rich documentary about a man whose sound casts a spell on fans who love โ as one of Santanaโs famous titles saysโ โhow his rhythm goes.โ
At the age of five, in his native Mexico, he learned to play the violin. At eight, he developed a lifelong love for the guitar. At 14, he honed those guitar virtuoso skills and his performance style working a street musician, starting his own band long after, while still a teenager. And at 22 โ just before his first album was released to acclaim โ Carlos Santana became one of the major discoveries of Woodstock, anchoring the famous festivalโs second afternoon on August 16, 1969. A music industry legend for 50 years and a 10-time Grammy-winning global sensation, as well as a recipient of a Kennedy Center Honor and a Billboard Century Award, Santana continues to be one of the music worldโs premiere artists, blending jazz, blues, and the Mariachi sound with a rock nโ roll spirituality and a sense of connection to musicโs primal connection to our deepest emotions.
This fall, Santana continues his House of Blues Las Vegas residency at Mandalay Bay entitled An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live: Presented by SiriusXM. The show continues for 11th year with 16 dates added for September and November.
Last fall, the Latin rock guitarist released Blessings and Miraclesย in a new deal with BMG. The album sees the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member collaborating with a diverse host of brilliant artists, writers, and producers including Chris Stapleton, Steve Winwood, Chick Corea, Rick Rubin, Living Colour’s Corey Glover, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Ally Brooke, and Narada Michael Walden, among others.
