Carly Pearce amplifies red flags and over-the-top attempts to woo in the music video for “Next Girl.” Though the message is strong and clear, director Seth Kupersmith showcases an exaggerated version of reality with a little levity. “This video was so fun to make! I feel like most of us have either been on the receiving end of these ridiculous advances or have witnessed them,” confides Pearce. “And while I truly hope the lyrics help the ‘next girl’ know that a jerk’s actions are not her fault, I also wanted to mix some of the often experienced pick-up techniques with a little humor. Come on, do these really work?!”
With music that transcends the moment, Pearce reaches deep on “Next Girl,” harkening back to the fierce female voices like Patty Loveless, Dolly, Reba and Wynonna. Already garnering nearly 10 million global streams and becoming the most added on playlists nationwide at country radio stations upon release, their influences are reflected in the Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne collaboration, which follows two No. 1 hits – platinum-certified “Every Little Thing” and “I Hope You’re Happy Now” with Lee Brice. The latter has amassed 311+ million global streams and earned the pair a CMT Music Awards nomination for Collaborative Video of the Year, plus Pearce a Quarantine Video of the Year nod for “It Won’t Always Be Like This (The Social Distance Sessions).” Ahead of the November 11th broadcast on the ABC Television Network at 8 pm ET, Pearce also garnered the most nods for any new artist this year leading the CMA Awards in four categories – New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Musical Event of the Year and Video of the Year.
From backstage over the weekend (Oct 24th), Pearce hosted the companion livestream ahead of the Opry Live broadcast on Circle Network, Circle All Access Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. The Kentucky native whose love of country music began as child and through her high school years performing at Dollywood will keep generations of the genre celebrating together this Wednesday (Oct 28th).
