Celine Dion’s husband, René Angélil, has died after a long bout of throat cancer. Angélil passed away Thursday (Jan 14th) at his home in Las Vegas.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce that René Angélil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer,” reads a message on Dion’s Facebook page. “The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy. Other information you will be provided in the next few days.”
Angélil has had three bouts of throat cancer dating back to 1998. His health took a rapid decline in recent years forcing Dion to cancel, and then reschedule, most of her Las Vegas residency and Asia tour.
TMZ reports that Angelil’s death was unexpected as he had been feeling better in recent days. Angélil and Dion had also had reportedly scheduled a business meeting for today.
Angélil is survived by his and Dion’s 14 year old and 5 year old twins. Angélilalso has three other children from a previous marriage.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dion and her family.
