Michael W. Smith is on his annual Christmas tour.
Michael W. Smith provided a great night of holiday cheer that was full of inspiration. Smith and his band are touring with this year’s holiday show called Every Christmas.
Smith was joined on stage throughout the evening by sensational Christian singer Riley Clemmons. Clemmons is known for hit songs “Broken Prayers” and “Better for It.” She was dynamic as a vocalist and helped build wonderment and joy on stage during the two-hour concert. The combination of Smith on piano and Clemmons singing faith-inspired songs echoed beautifully throughout Capital One Hall. Smith stated of Clemmons, “She grew up in Brentwood, Tennessee, and can sing.” Clemmons then joined Smith on stage for a great rendition of “White Christmas.”
In addition to the originals, Smith and his band also offered classic tunes. “Silent Night” proved a standout of these carols. Smith’s dedication to his craft through his faith and just plain hard work could be felt during the show. The backup singers were brilliant, providing great harmonies with Smith, along with the musicians in the band.
The show was also highlighted by Smith talking about his work with Amy Grant at key moments throughout the evening, the importance of Christmas music in his and his family’s life, describing how his family listened each holiday season to Andy Williams’ Christmas albums when growing up in West Virginia, and more heartwarming stories.
Smith conversed with the audience at key moments during the event, and at one point talked about his love of America. At this point in the evening, Smith called for the Veterans in the audience to stand for a moment of recognition from the band and audience.
Right before intermission, the audience was treated to a brief discussion and video about Smith’s work with the international charity, Compassion, which helps kids living in poverty to get a better life as well as hear about a life filled with Christ and the church. Audience members were allowed to adopt a child that evening.
After a brief intermission, the band played another hour of great songs before finishing a great evening of song with Smith singing a very emotional rendition of Petula Clark’s Christmas classic “The Happiest Christmas”.
Smith has been conducting this Christmas tour for several years now and is a must-see during the holiday season. He will finish the tour with three shows in Nashville on December 19-21.
