The singer rejoins after retiring from the band in 1998
Longtime Fleetwood Mac member Christine McVie is rejoining the band after a long hiatus. According to Fleetwood Mac News, drummer Mick Fleetwood made the announcement after a performance he played at Uncle Willie K’s BBQ Blues Fest in Maui on Saturday which included a special performance by McVie herself.
Fleetwood addressed the crowd, “This is the worst kept secret there is, but Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac!”
However, the news shouldn’t come as unexpected to die hard fans as both Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham had told audience members at the group’s recent New Year’s shows in Las Vegas that a 2014 tour would happen with McVie rejoining the lineup.
Despite her retirement from the band in 1998, McVie has joined the group on stage a few times in the last year including a brief on-stage appearance in London in September 2013. That’s when the Rumours started to swirl about a classic reunion.
Fans will no doubt enjoy the upcoming tour as more good news stems from the band’s camp. McVie’s ex-husband, John McVie, one of the co-founding and original members of Fleetwood Mac, rejoined the band on stage for the New Year’s shows after undergoing treatment for cancer that forced the group to cancel the Australian/New Zealand leg of their tour in October 2013.
We do expect the band to make an official written announcement regarding both McVie’s return along with the tour, at any time.
