Club Chris takes over Irving Plaza

TikTok star Chris Olsen is on his first-ever headlining tour

Chris Olsen, a 27-year-old social media star with 20 million followers on social media, is embarking on his first-ever live tour. He rose to fame posting silly couples content with his ex, delivering coffee to superstars on comically long cross-globe trips, TikTok trends, and being a vulnerably relatable Gen Zer.

In real life, Olsen is the social media guru for pop sensation Meghan Trainor. She gave him the opportunity to take his own success on the road with an opening spot on her tour last summer. On its heels, he announced the Club Chris tour.

The show starts out with Trainor hyping up the crowd at the “Nepo Sibling” DJ booth. He spent ample time in the crowd interacting one on one with fans.

Chris emerged and sang show tunes. Stradling both the millennial and Gen Z generations, this act included “Mama Mia” “Hannah Montana” and “High School Musical” numbers.

A consummate pro, Olsen handled it well when his form fitting pants ripped after a twerk. It sent the crowd into a tizzy. In fact, anything he did sent Club Chris members ablaze. Irving Plaza has never sounded so loud.

There’s much more I could say about this two hour show, but that would spoil the fun. Part theater, part concert, it’s one gigantic rave filled with love.

A BFA in musical theater, Chris Olsen has a showy and youthful voice worthy of more than the covers he’s turned into full-fledged entertaining stage bits. (“Popular” is worth the price of admission alone.) While Olsen has earned legions of loyal fans by posting his most personal moments and emotional lows, on stage he has the sassy confidence of a true diva performer. “The ass is phat” he joked when he ripped his pants.

That stage presence is made all the more endearing when you know there’s really an insecure human behind it, just yearning to connect. And connect he will, online or on stage, for a long time to come.
