Darius Rucker teases new music

“Beers And Sunshine” set for August 6th world premiere at country radio

Multi-platinum star Darius Rucker joined the 8 am hour of NBC’s TODAY Friday, July 10th, to announce that new music is officially on the horizon with forthcoming single “Beers And Sunshine” set to premiere at country radio on August 6th, available everywhere August 7th. Written by Rucker together with producer Ross Copperman alongside Josh Osborne and J.T. Harding, the feel-good summer song calls for slowing down to enjoy the simple things in life when the world feels out of control.

“It’s certainly been a hard year so far with a lot of heaviness around us constantly,” notes Rucker. “Like it says in the song, I don’t know how we fix any of these big, real issues that we’re facing, but while we work through this time I think it’s important that we find the silver lining where we can really enjoy the little moments and the simple joys of time spent together with friends and family.”

Rucker, who is set to perform a “Live from the Drive-In” concert at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium this weekend, will also host a virtual edition of his annual “Darius & Friends” concert benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Thursday, July 30th at 7 pm CT. Pay-per-view tickets starting at $15 are on sale now at LiveXLive.com/Darius.

Rucker tells NBC’s Harry Smith he’s faced racism his entire life, despite his success.

“I’ve lived with racism my whole life… I just can’t keep living my life like everything is okay because everything is not okay.”

Rucker adds, “I can’t live like that anymore… I don’t want that for my boy. I don’t want that for my daughter. I don’t want that for anybody.”

He continues, candidly sharing his own experience with Smith, “You become a rich black man and you think racism goes away. It doesn’t…. I got stopped because I was a black guy in an expensive car. It’s happened a million times… It’s not going to change until enough people say it’s wrong.”

On racism in the industry, Rucker reflects, “One sentence can end your career in country music… I’m sure I’ve already lost fans.”
