Dave Mustaine gives cancer update

Mustaine is eager to get back to work

Earlier this year, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine announced he had been diagnosed with throat cancer, forcing the group to cancel most 2019 tour dates. The thrash metalhead has given an update on his condition, stating doctors are feeling positive about his recovery.

“I wanted to take a moment to give you all an update on the current status of my health. I’m almost through the last round of treatment and my doctors are feeling very positive regarding my progress. I want to thank all of you for the support and well wishes these last few months. I can’t express enough gratitude as it has made this hard road easier knowing you are in my corner fighting with me!” Mustaine shares.

He continues, “Over the next few weeks my condition will be evaluated, and I will keep you posted on my progress as we get closer to the sailing date of the first Megacruise! We can’t wait to see you, and I know all of the other wonderful artists feel the same way. Let’s make this event one for the record books. Less than 30 days till we are Thrashing through the Pacific!”

The inaugural MegaCruise departs Los Angeles aboard the Norwegian Jewel October 13-18th with headlining sets by Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Queensrÿche and more. In addition, official cruise hosts Eddie Trunk (VH1, SiriusXM, AXS), Jose Mangin (SiriusXM) and Lüc Carl (SiriusXM, Ozzy’s Boneyard) will be moderating Q&A’s and activities specially crafted for this voyage.

Mustaine confirms Megadeth is working on the follow up to their 2016 album Dystopia. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, No. 1 album on the Hard Music and Top Rock charts and No. 2 on the Top Album Sales chart. Globally, Dystopia also achieved top ten debuts in Canada (No. 2), Japan (No. 2 international chart), Finland (No. 3), Mexico (No. 4), Czech Republic (No. 5), Australia (No. 6), New Zealand (No. 6), Switzerland (No. 7), Poland (No. 8) and Germany (No. 10), which along with Belgium, Ireland and Spain contributed to achieve Megadeth’s highest ever chart positions in their thirty year history in a total of ten countries around the world.
