Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen discusses trauma he’s experiencing from violet attack

The rocker was attacked two years ago while on tour in Florida

Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen recently spoke with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXMโ€™s Trunk Nation. During the conversation, Allen opened up about the trauma heโ€™s experiencing from the brutal attack he faced in March 2023 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“I’ve been going through some, yeah, some challenging times, you know, kind of related to what happened in Florida and that whole thing is kind of ongoing, you know, when I got beaten up outside, outside the hotel. So I’ve been trying to deal with that the best that I can and really I just needed to take a break from some of the, some of the side projects that I was busy with, just so I could spend more time at home. So that’s been a real challenge for me. Hopefully I can put it all behind me and I can just get, kind of get back to, you know, as normal as I could possibly be given the circumstances. But that was very traumatic for me, you know? And yeah, it’s been difficult, but hopefully I can put it behind me soon,” Allen tells Trunk last week.

The famed radio host says he understands how hard it could be for one to get past something so traumatic.

“I did go out and I did accrue and, I kind of, I realized that I was finding it difficult to be around a lot of people like that. Yeah. So I decided, you know what, Rick, don’t try and buy up more than you can chew. Just deal with this deal, with what’s in front of you, spend as much time as you need to at home. And, you know, I’m just hoping as I say that I can put it behind me, but I really do appreciate you asking me about that. You know I’d love to get back to doing some of my side projects, particularly the art and let’s hope I can soon,” Allen adds.

Fort Lauderdale police arrested a 19-year-old visiting from Ohio. He pled not guilty to the charge of abuse to an elderly or disabled person. No motive has been determined for what appears to be a random attack.
