Trio have changed name across socials and website

The Dixie Chicks have rebranded as The Chicks. The country trio from Texas have followed in the footsteps of Lady A — formerly known as Lady Antebellum until earlier this month — to remove any southern iconology from its name following backlash due to civil unrest against blacks in America.

The group’s socials and website have been rebranded to reflect the change.

“A sincere and heartfelt thank you goes out to ‘The Chicks’ of NZ for their gracious gesture in allowing us to share their name. We are honored to co-exist together in the world with these exceptionally talented sisters,” the band share in a statement.

The change was made on Thursday (June 25th) with a social justice video for their single “March March” and caption, “If your voice held no power, they wouldn’t try to silence you,” from an unknown source.

The group’s upcoming Gaslighter album seems to also show the name change. A listing on Target’s website still shows the original album cover with “Dixie” attached to the name, but will likely be changed as retailers receive the new art.

Front woman Natalie Maines has said the trio’s name stems from the Little Feet song “Dixie Chicken” and is not political in anyway. The trio is from Texas, which is considered the south, but the term Dixie has become iconic with the Mason-Dixon Line and southern Confederacy that is currently under attack following the death of black citizens at the hands of white cops across the country.
