Country star wants to “earn” Rock Hall induction

Dolly Parton is bringing out the rock star collaborations for her forthcoming Rock Star album which features a mix of rock cover songs and originals. The newly minted Rock & Roll Hall of Famer tells the ladies of ABC’s The View that she’s secured some big names for the forthcoming project with hopes of recruiting more.

“If I’m going to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I’m going to have to do something to earn it, so I’m doing a rock and roll album and I have a lot of the rock stars I met that night be on it with me,” she says.

She confirms she’s recorded a version of The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” and has high hopes of getting frontman Mick Jagger to sing on the track.

“Well, I’m doin’ my best to try to get him on, but I did his song anyway. I think Pink and Brandi Carlile are gonna be singing on that particular song with me,” she says. “But we got great artists like Paul McCartney is singin’ with me… Stevie Nicks, we just finished our song last night. We got John Fogerty. We got Steve Perry and Steven Tyler. We got a lot of great artists — iconic singers that are going to be on with us so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m going to have Cher on. I’ve been gettin’ a song for her. We’ve been tryin’ to get the right thing together, but that’s goin’ to be a big thrill, I think.”

Last month, Parton revealed that she’s also hoping to recruit Elton John for the project, and has recorded a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” with hopes that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page will join her.

Parton also recently talked to Kelly Clarkson about “Rockin’ It,” an original rock song she wrote and premiered at the Rock Hall Induction Ceremony.

“I wrote a song for the show about my whole experience about that. It’s called ‘Rockin’ It,’ because I’ve been rocking it. I grew up loving Elvis and Wildman Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, they all had cast a spell on me Carl Perkins and them ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ had no place on the farm. That’s better than those Brogans I was wearing around the barn.”

Parton is celebrating her 77th birthday on January 19th with the Grand Ole Opry honoring the country icon with two tribute shows this weekend. Keeping with the “77” celebration, the Opry is set to spotlight hits from Parton’s 1977 album Here You Come Again, Parton’s first Platinum album and a crossover smash, with performances by Chapel Hart, The Fairfield Four, Caitlyn Smith, Marty Stuart, and Chris Young.

Earlier this week, Parton launched four new baking mixes with Duncan Hines, following its launch last year. Beginning in early 2023, the new Duncan Hines Dolly Parton’s baking mixes can be found in the baking section of grocery stores and mass retailers.
