Parton shares song she wrote from a dream
It’s Dolly Parton’s 77th birthday and she’ll debut a new song if she wants to! That’s exactly what the country queen did with the release of “Don’t Make Me Have to Come Down There.”
“Well, today is my birthday,” she says as she sings herself “Happy Birthday” in an Instagram video. “And these are my birthday flowers. Somebody said, what are you gonna get on your birthday? I said ‘I’m not gonna get, I’m gonna give.’ I’ve got a song that I’m dropping today on my birthday.”
She explains that the song came to her in a dream.
“It’s a song that kinda came to me in a dream, and I felt like it was worth putting out there, something special. Well, it’s special to me. I had a dream about God standing on a mountain, looking down at us, saying ‘Don’t make me have to come down there.’ And then it woke me up, I got up, I started writing this song. And over a period of weeks and months, I finished it as things would come to me. And I just felt like I should drop it on my birthday. So I hope you enjoy it.”
The Grand Ole Opry will honor the country icon with two tribute shows this weekend. Keeping with the “77” celebration, the Opry is set to spotlight hits from Parton’s 1977 album Here You Come Again, Parton’s first Platinum album and a crossover smash, with performances by Chapel Hart, The Fairfield Four, Caitlyn Smith, Marty Stuart, and Chris Young.
Earlier this week, Parton launched four new baking mixes with Duncan Hines, following its launch last year. Beginning in early 2023, the new Duncan Hines Dolly Parton’s baking mixes can be found in the baking section of grocery stores and mass retailers.
The newly minted Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is currently recording a rock album which will be a mix of rock covers and originals, including her song, “Rockin’ It,” which she premiered at her induction ceremony in November. Earlier this week, she confirmed on ABC’s The View Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Pink and Brandi Carlile will appear on the project due later this year.
