Growth Rings is now available

A short film co-written and narrated by late Rush drummer Neil Peart is now available. Drum Workshop (DW Drums) released the eight minute film called Growth Rings on YouTube last week. The inspiration piece was co-written by Jeremy Bout and recorded by Peart, one of the greatest drummers of all time.

“This short film honors the way in which music marks moments in our lives,” DW shares in a statement. “Just as the life of a tree can be understood through its growth rings, we can look at the milestones and eras of our lives and reminiscence of the songs and bands that resonated with us during those times.”

The film compares the growth of music to the growth of rings on a tree. It takes viewers on a quick timeline through the different decades of music and share how they have grown overtime.

“The songs of our youth, of our courtships, of our good and bad times, remain alive to us for life,” Peart shares. “Music interweaves tightly through our memories.”

The film wraps with Peart on stage with his Rush bandmates.

In January, Peart passed away from an aggressive form of brain cancer at the age of 67. The group just released 40th anniversary editions of its Permanent Waves album on May 29th. Last week, it dropped an official animated conceptual music video for “The Spirit of Radio.”
