Classic East and Classic West set for July

The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are set to headline two summer festivals called Classic East and Classic West. Billboard first reported that the bi-coastal music festival on Thursday (March 2nd) before an official announcement. The concerts are set for July at Citi Field in New York and Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

Each festival is set to be held over two days with additional artists to be announced. Billboard says Azoff MSG Entertainment, Live Nation, the Oak View Group and CAA are all involved in the blockbuster concert concept that they’re hoping to make an annual franchise.

A spokesperson for Azoff MSG Entertainment, which manages both acts, tells the LA Times that “we are not prepared to release anything officially — this caught us by surprise,” referring to Billboard’s article. Multiple sources have confirmed to the LA Times that the concerts are happening.

This will be the first time The Eagles have reunited since their tribute to co-founder Glenn Frey at last year’s Grammy Awards. Frey died in January 2016 from a combination of rheumatoid arthritics, ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. Reports indicate these are the only dates scheduled for Fleetwood Mac in 2017.

The news comes after Goldenvoice and AEG Live’s classic rock festival, Desert Trip, was a huge success last October. The two weekend festival grossed more than $160 million in profit and featured The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Who sharing the same bill for the first time ever. Producers have not announced if the show will return to the Coachella site in Indio again this year.

More details as they become available.
