John’s company is producing the film

The long awaited and high anticipated Elton John biopic is finally coming to life.  After tapping Michael Gracey to direct in March, Rocketman took to Cannes where it has found Good Universe to handle international sales of the biopic while UTA Independent Film Group will handle the domestic rights.

Produced by John’s Rocket Pictures, the film follows John’s life story from five-year-old musical prodigy through his often-troubled life to becoming a global icon and one of the world’s most iconic musicians.  John has described the film as “Moulin Rouge type of stuff” that will include extravagant choreographed sequences to John’s biggest hits.

David Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw will produce with John executive producing the project.  A script was acquired by Billy Elliot screenwriter Lee Hall.  Gracey’s resumé includes commercials for T-Mobile, Evian, McCain and Lipton, most of which are heavy in special effects and choreography.  Gracey most recently signed on to helm The Greatest Showman on Earth with Hugh Jackman and The Muppet Man for Jim Henson Productions.

No word on when production will begin let alone when the film will finally see a release date.
