Track is expected this week

A new duet between Elton John and Britney Spears has been confirmed. Reps for both artists sent a statement Monday (Aug 8th) confirming “Hold Me Closer” was coming soon with a pre-save link and artwork, but revealed nothing further.

The light pink artwork features the title with a rose emblem representing Spears and rocket for John. Their names do not grace the artwork sent.

A duet between the pair was rumored three weeks ago as a re-recording of John’s hit “Tiny Dancer.” “Hold me closer” are the first three words of the chorus of “Tiny Dancer,” so it appears the classic track has been renamed for the new collab. No release date was giving, but the song is expected to drop in the coming days.

The song would be Spears’ first in a number of years and since her nearly 14 year conservatorship was canceled in November 2021.

“Hold Me Closer” follows a series of duets John has released with pop stars. Last year, he released the collaborative album, The Lockdown Sessions, that were recorded remotely during the pandemic with Dua Lipa, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Puth and others. He also recently teamed with Yard Act for “100% Endurance.”

John is set to perform his last US concert this fall when he headlines three shows at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in November. John embarked on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in September 2018 – its milestone, multi-year itinerary comprising over 300 shows across five continents. Currently on the road in North America, the final concert in the States will be the subject of a Disney+ documentary about his 50 year career.
