Elton John says he’s losing his sight and discusses future of music career

The British rocker talks to ABC News about his condition

This morning (Mon, Nov 25th) on ABC News’ Good Morning America, music icon Elton John sat down with Robin Roberts to discuss his life, his music, and what lies ahead in the next chapter of his journey. During the conversation, John shared a personal revelation, telling Roberts that he lost his eyesight in his right eye earlier this year.

“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France. And it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. And my left eye’s not the greatest,” John says.

Despite this, he remained hopeful, adding, “So, there’s hope and encouragement that it will be ok. But I’m kind of stuck in the moment because I can do something like this [the interview], but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know. Because I can’t see, literally for start.”

Earlier this month, John unveiled his new single with Brandi Carlile. Their new original song “Never Too Late” is from the Disney+ documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late. The collaboration between the longtime friends and artistic kindred spirits was written specifically for the documentary which premieres on Disney+ on December 13th.

John will be featured in the upcoming star-studded The Wonderful World of Disney: Holiday Spectacular, airing on December 1st on ABC. John will perform “Your Song” from one of Disney’s many parks globally.
