Eric Church waiting on COVID-19 vaccine before resuming touring

Church thinks touring will be resume next year

Fans shouldn’t expect to see Eric Church on the road for the next 12-18 months. The country superstar says he’s not planning on touring again until there’s a vaccine for COVID-19 so fans can actually enjoy themselves at concerts once again.

“When people come back, they have to feel that it’s OK to be there, that they can experience it the way they want to experience it,” Church tells the Associated Press. “They should be able to go up and throw their arms around the person next to them. They should not be scared about being three feet away and not six.”

Despite many concerts and other events being rescheduled for late summer into the fall — like Stagecoach that Church is on tap to play — the future of concerts for the rest of 2020 remains unknown. Last week, scientists suggested that all mass gatherings, including concerts, be on hold for 18 months while biologists work on a vaccine for COVID-19.

“For me, I think it’s summer or fall of ’21. I am going on the promise of a vaccine. I’m going on the possibility of a therapeutic that could change the game,” Church shares.

Albums have also been delayed due to COVID-19, including Church’s own that was planned for 2020. Before the virus spread, Church secluded himself in a makeshift studio in North Carolina where he wrote and recorded 28 songs within a month. None of the tracks have been released to radio or digital outlets as of press time, but Church performed “Never Break Heart” on ACM Presents: Our Country and shared a portion of “Through My Ray Bands” in a new video asking “Who Will Answer The Call?”

Church will be featured this weekend on SiriusXM’s Stagecouch Weekend featuring exclusive, new performance sets from this year’s Stagecoach lineup and its headliners, broadcast each day from artists’ homes.
