Exclusive: ‘Barbie’ composer Andrew Wyatt learning to be Kenough

Andrew Wyatt earned multiple Grammy nods at the 66th ceremony for his work on Barbie

As he walked the red carpet at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (Feb 4th), composer Andrew Wyatt chatted with The Music Universe about the strange ride that has been the virality of his hit song โ€œIโ€™m Just Kenโ€ from summer 2023โ€™s record-breaking Barbie movie.

When asked what the strangest thing about the Ryan Goslin song overtaking pop culture was for him, Wyatt told us, โ€œI think the craziest thing was seeing the Queen’s Guard at Buckingham Palace play I’m Just Ken. That was, that was when you knew, okay, this one went wide.โ€

Laughing about it, the multi-Grammy nominee said, โ€œMaybe there’s some hardcore music fans in the Queen’s Buckingham Palace Guard, but it’s not the first thing you think of.โ€

And as to whether heโ€™s Kenough, Wyatt became introspective. โ€œYou know, I’ve worked very hard to start feeling like I’m Knuff, right? Like probably most artists.โ€

Released in July 2023, Barbie grossed more than $1.4 billion at the global box office, making it the year’s highest-grossing film.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, Barbie stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell. The executive producers are Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Ynon Kreiz, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams. The filmโ€™s music supervisor is George Drakoulias, with music by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.
