Exclusive: High Valley’s Brad Rempel talks ‘Growin’ Up Country’

The album features country stars singing kids tracks

In late June, Growin’ Up Country Vol. Two, featuring a collection of children’s songs written and performed by some of country music’s most talented artists and songwriters, was released via Platoon. The album features artists John Osborne of Brothers Osborne, Runaway June, High Valley, and others.

Nashville-based songwriter and producer Jaden Michaels curated the project. High Valley’s Brad Rempel chatted with us to discuss his group’s involvement.

“High Valley’s mantra has always been faith, family and country music. We’d even talk about the idea, but didn’t have the rights to the masters to do like a Kidz Bop version of ‘Make You Mine’ and ‘She’s With Me,’ and I was like, ‘Man, that’d be amazing.’ I have so many nieces and nephews who can sing so well so I kinda wanted them to record my songs,” Rempell tells us. “When I heard about Growin Up Country, I hit her up and just said, ‘Man, this is so awesome,’ and that was it It was just a compliment. She said, ‘Thanks so much. Would you ever want to work on the next one?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely,’ and that’s how that all started.”

The songs featured on the digital project were written for kids with High Valley performing “Big Feelings.” Rempel says he didn’t write the song, but felt that it was a good fit for his group.

“Obviously it’s different when you’re recording this really like kid-themed record, but I thought it was so cool how they bridged the gap between something we would’ve done for a normal project and something tailor-made for kids. So it felt really right for us,” he adds.

The album is available at all digital outlets.
