The pop star died in Argentina in October 2024
Five people have been charged in connection with Liam Payne’s death in mid-October. The Argentinian Public Prosecutor’s Office shares that Rogelio “Roger” Nores, a close friend of the English musician, and four hotel employees have been charged with “creating a risk that resulted in Payne’s death” after the One Direction star received cocaine for money while staying at Casa Sur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires.
Nores, the hotel manager, and the receptionist have been accused of “culpable homicide” for Payne’s October 16th death after falling from his third-floor hotel room balcony. They face up to five years in prison. Two others were charged with “supplying narcotics” and face between four and 15 years in prison each.
“According to the forensic experts, it is likely that the musician fell unconscious after trying to climb over the railing of the room’s balcony,” prosecutors state.
Judge Laura Bruniard determined that “it was proven by the testimonies gathered by the prosecutor that Liam James Payne had a history of addiction.” Eyewitnesses explained that Payne was seen demanding cocaine and alcohol by hotel staff and that “the autopsy performed on his body showed that the death was caused by multiple trauma and internal and external bleeding,” and that “the presence of cocaine and alcohol in large quantities was confirmed.”
