Former Crosby Stills and Nash recording studio renovated

This month, Aftermaster, Inc., an award-winning, industry leading audio company, opened the doors of what promises to be among the best recording studios in North America—run by top engineers committed to preserving an incredible legacy in Hollywood.

The new Aftermaster Studios Hollywood breathes life back into a landmark originally constructed by superstar Graham Nash and made famous by Crosby, Stills & Nash, almost forty years ago. Since its completion in 1978, it has been a recording and production facility for dozens of music’s greatest talents, including Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, and in later years, diverse artists such as Tupac Shakur, Fleetwood Mac and Good Charlotte.

The renovation team at Aftermaster led by Larry Ryckman and Shelly Yakus, has completely modernized the iconic locale, updating it for a new generation of superstars. This marks the fifth studio that Aftermaster operates at the historic Crossroads of the World, originally built in 1936.

The newly renovated studio control room is outfitted with a legendary 80 channel SSL 4000 G+ recording console—originally built for NBC’s Saturday Night Live—and five racks of state-of-the-art gear built into the wall. The control room is punctuated by stone wall accents, stained glass windows and specially designed acoustic walls. The expansive live room sports new bamboo floors, stone-accented walls and includes both a piano room and a vocal booth.

“The studio renovation and reopening is an important part of creating a new dawn for the music recording industry in Hollywood.”

“We are confident that the renovation of such a legendary studio at Aftermaster Studios Hollywood will result in one of the most important recording studios in the world,” comments Aftermaster CEO and Founder Larry Ryckman. “The studio renovation and reopening is an important part of creating a new dawn for the music recording industry in Hollywood. We are proud to be able to offer an important and historic home to the next generation of recording artists who will once again change the course of music.”

Just next door, in the former offices of Alfred Hitchcock, Aftermaster’s award-winning team masters and engineers music for some of the world’s biggest talents in four custom built recording studios. The addition of this legendary studio cements Aftermaster’s studio facilities among the preeminent recording facilities in North America.

The Aftermaster team includes a diverse group of some of the biggest names in music and audio and includes Pete Doell, Rodney Jerkins, Larry Ryckman, Justin Timberlake, Paul Wolff and Shelly Yakus who have cumulatively produced, engineered and mastered more hit music than any audio company in the world.
